Pick the height as carefully as the model
People compare the two mattresses for an hour and then choose a height in ten seconds. It should be the other way round.
- 5 or 6 inches: sits lower, feels firmer, easier on a high bed frame or a hydraulic storage bed.
- 8 or 10 inches: more give without going soft, better if the bed is low and you want it to feel substantial.
Two things nobody mentions until it arrives
- It is heavy. Rotating a king size latex mattress is a two-person job. Plan it for a weekend.
- It dislikes direct sun. Natural latex does not enjoy long spells of UV, so air the room rather than putting the mattress out in it.
Living with one
- Rotate it head to foot every three to six months.
- Use a washable protector from the first night.
- Keep it on a firm, even base. Latex will not bridge a sagging board or wide slat gaps.
